Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the rear brakes on my Ka Collection 2002 and just wonder if anyone can help me out.

For the last 5 years I have had an ongoing problem with my KA wearing out rear brake shoes every 8,000 miles. I have had the master cylinder changed and the bias values. All the brake pipes are fine and system has been bleed through numerous times.

The garage where I take have said the shoes are not sticking or binding and handbrake is working fine the car is just braking really heavy on the rear end and they don't seem to know why? They have suggested it could be because I have alloys on it, but I'm not convinced with this as they have been on the car since I bought it new. In the eight years I have owned the car been through 7 sets of brake shoes and am only on my second set of front pads. The car has done about 71,000 miles.

Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone shed any light on what maybe causing it?

Thanks
Clare

They are a ford approved garage and they say they only fit genuine ford parts.

Hi i have a 02 KA luxury with alloy wheels and air con ,,Mine has 25,000 miles on it and so far no problems with the rear brakes,I do take off the rear drums once a year and manually adjust the shoes but that's all and they still look good ,I have always adjusted the hand brake so that it works on the first notch, 3 months ago i replaced the front bottom swinging arms things as mine was squeaking and while doing that i replaced the discs and pads.If i was you i would remove the rear wheel and drum and clean and check them yourself just to make sure.
