 Post subject: 2001 Duratec flywheel problem (Dual Mass)

Hi,
Posted this in the general section as well.

Mondeo 1.8 saloon, Duratec, 2001. I have removed the flywheel due to advice from a mate who said the bad knocking noise (similar to a big end) could be the dual m{Bad Word: Moderated} flywheel. I found the flywheel can be moved around if you grip the egde and spin the outer part it moves about 30mm. Is this right? Also as I am a qualified welder and I thought I could weld it both sides all the way around and have it balanced. Is this an option? Are the solid ones made from a billet or just rewelded dual m{Bad Word: Moderated}'
