Hi,

I have a problem with my daughter’s Ka which I am trying to determine if it is the thermostat or heater valve. Symptoms are heater only blowing cold air and there was water seeping out at the thermostat housing.

Took the housing off to check the thermostat to check it’s operation and cannot get it out. Manual says use pliers to compress the thermostat retaining clip, what thermostat retaining clip!!!! any advice gratefully apreciated

Regards

Nick

It sounds like you could just have air in the system, you'll need to bleed the air out of the system by a valve on a coolant pipe, leave the lid off the coolant bottle and keep filling the bottle up as it drinks the coolant, let the engine get hot enought for the stat to open (when its open both pipes from the top and bottem of the rad should be warm) and wait for the fan to kick in.
And on regards to checking your stat, boil a kettle of water, fill up a cup and drop your stat in, it should open up. Good luck
