Hi guys, i am writing on behalf of my dad. He bought a 2006 focus st off a friend, absolutely mint with only 9k on the clock. He loves every bit about the car but it has somehow developed a leak in the boot  We have stripped it out and have found the p{Bad Word: Moderated}enger side is leaking somewhere as the foam bits stuck to the plastic parts are sodden with water. We have taken the rear cluster off and poured water down but cannot see a leak. From the amount of water that was in the boot we can only {Bad Word: Moderated}ume it is coming in fast. I personally think it is coming in through one of the screw holes for the rear cluster (though it does have a little seal on it.

If anyone has experienced this themselves or knows anything that may help could you please reply to this.

Thanks alot Greg

We have the same issue on our 2001 Focus. It started to smell inside and we have found the carpet in the boot at the LHS on p{Bad Word: Moderated}enger side is very wet. Also at the bootom going up over the wheel arch.
I'm checking the forums now, and see some advise like:
*this could be comming in from the welds arround the tailgate hinges*.
On one person's site there is a pic supposedly sent by Ford showing the hinge welds.
I'm going to try and check this out on our car and I'll post here if I have success. :|

Have also found my 2001 3 door 1.8L Focus is getting water in the boot/hatch. I noticed this on the RH side as the foam bit stuck to the boot carpet piece was all wet. Also some water had entered the spare wheel well. I removed the RH interior piece of carpet that covers the RH wheel arch. There is a square piece cut out where you can see a vent with a thin fabric cover over it. The water is getting through only when it rains and the car is parked. The little space/well though the square cut out is where the water collects and eventually runs over the small lip and into the spare wheel well. I have had the RH light cluster off/cleaned and applyed silican around the 2 peg holes and where the screw goes in but it still leaks! It is a slow process as ive had the hosepipe on it and it takes ages for water to come through. Does the black rubber strip on the roof edges (2 of)that runs from front to back pull out? Anybody any ideas?

Check the vent with the thin cover as this is where my leak came from. You might need remove the cover, then replace it, using a silicone sealing around the edges to make a watertight seal.

I would start by trying to trace where the water is coming in from inside the vehicle. If possible remove the internal trims and redo the test to see where the entry point is.
The other option is to remove the rear bumper and check for signs of bad seams ,missing body grommets etc.

Good Luck

I hoped that by now you have figured things out on how to fix this kind of problem. Also, try to really check out some good ford parts in order to really fix this one. Hope all is well by now.

I have the same problem with 55 plate Focus 5 door. Have tried to seal everything under the rear clustter with silicone but with no sucess. Poured water all over the back but, even after loosening off the trim I cannot find where it is entering the boot. I'll take a look at the weld around the hinges.
Any more ideas most welcome.

I have the same problem with my 06 focus st ,if you remove the inner trims on your rear pillars inside the boot and look up inside the outer body panel to see if it is wet , if so it may be the roof that is leaking at the body seams to cure this you will have to remove the two black trims that run the length of the roof on the outside , these are stuck on with a double sided tape , if you warm them up carefully with a hot air gun you should be able to pull them off gently and be able to re-apply them without havng to buy new ones,be careful not to damage the paintwork, once you have removed them check the seam were the roof panel is weld to the car it is known to crack and let in water ,clean the area along the recess and apply some sealant, when dry replace the trims .hope thi helps.

Thanks for info. I'll take a look and water test the area but the water can easily seen running down the carpet where it covers the wheel arches, without having to remove anything.
