Hi

I own a 2005 focus 1.6 petrol. Fuel gauge never reads accurately. When I fill the tank it always reads half full, it never goes over half full mark. Then through the contents of the tank the gauge goes up and down, again never above half full 2-3 times and the low fuel light comes on also. I always refill the tank once i hit 300miles.

Is this a fuel gauge problem, or is it the full sender in the tank?

Can either part be replaced easily DIY? I would be fine changing the clocks, but would this be a problem with the milage reading?

thanks for anyhelp that can be giving.

Have had the same problem with my 05 diesel twice ovr the last five years. Fortunateley it was a company car and so just sent it to the garage to be sorted. Bought the car last year and since then the gauge has started playing up againie. Never reads full, sometime drops down to empty when its isn't and fluctuates about. I assume its the sender unit in the tank but without a pit or having it in the air it would be a sod to drop the fuel tank to replace it. I just refill the tank when I hit 500 miles and keep 5 litre fuel in the boot just incase.
