Have also found my 2001 3 door 1.8L Focus is getting water in the boot/hatch. I noticed this on the RH side as the foam bit stuck to the boot carpet piece was all wet. Also some water had entered the spare wheel well. I removed the RH interior piece of carpet that covers the RH wheel arch. There is a square piece cut out where you can see a vent with a thin fabric cover over it. The water is getting through only when it rains and the car is parked. The little space/well though the square cut out is where the water collects and eventually runs over the small lip and into the spare wheel well. I have had the RH light cluster off/cleaned and applyed silican around the 2 peg holes and where the screw goes in but it still leaks! It is a slow process as ive had the hosepipe on it and it takes ages for water to come through. Does the black rubber strip on the roof edges (2 of)that runs from front to back pull out? Anybody any ideas?

I've discovered the same problem on my sons 2003 ST. I was scrtching my head with this one as the obvious entry poins for water appear fine. I've found what appears to be a vent which is located inside the void behind the wheel arch and where the water collects before it spills over into the boot. If this proves to be the source of the leak, it looks like the rear bumper will have to be removed in order to sort the problem out??

The carpet in the boot of our 2001 Focus was wet. I found that the channel just above the boot opening (near the hinges for the hatch) had a big build up of debris from dead leaves and dirt. I cleaned all the channel at the top and also down both sides. During heavy rain I think that water was spilling over the seals because it couldn't flow away quickly enough. Since I did this several weeks ago, the boot has stayed dry so I'm confident that this must be one of the problems that causes the leaks. Hope it helps someone else as well.

Hi,

Digging up an old post here but I've just discovered my 04 Focus 5dr has a leak coming in which is pooling here :

Wondered if this 'clogging' is actually in the roof rack track? Want to resolve the leak ASAP.

Cheers,

David

I have exactly the same problem as you Monkey_Boy, on my 2002 Focus 1.6 Zetec 5 door. Water collecting in exactly the same place, inside the little cubby hole, on the left hand side (so not the fuel cap).

I've also taped up the screw hole for the headlight cluster so it's not coming from there either.

I've seen it dripping from the top of the hole and put a dish underneath. In the morning there was a little water in the dish but still a puddle around it.

I'm going out again now to put nuclear grade Duck tape around the rear window, over the roof runners and any other cracks. Will report my findings - please do the same!

Progress!

Last night I poured umpteen basins of water over the back left of the car from a number of angles and position and put tape over various different cracks. After each pour I'd wait a few minutes a check to see if water was coming in (didn't have to wait long - seems the leak is bigger than I thought)

Result? Putting tape over the forward/upward facing edge of the rear headlight seems to stop the leak. At least enough to p{Bad Word: Moderated} my basin test.

Will post more & photo's later - work beckons....

Oli
