I have an X plate Focus, 1400 Zetec.

Recently it has been not starting, after a few turns of the key it would eventually kick in.
When it doesn't start you can hear the starter motor (Clicking noise) and fuel pump going so i know they both are ok and are getting the power needed. Not sure if it is to do with one of the starter relays?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul.

in my experience when it fails to start and you hear clicking from starter but not engaging and after a while starts its either a faulty starter, alternator, or discharged/faulty battery. my advice would be have the battery and alternator tested (halfords do this free but dont purchase form them too dear) battery should be showing 12v not started 14.5 volts started (the extra 2.5v is the alternator charging the battery!) if started and showing 11v and dropping slowly the alternator is faulty and not charging battery.
if showing less than 12v not started and then started and start to rise in voltage then when engine off drops in voltage battery not holding charge and battery is faulty.

if battery is fine then have the startermotor tested at a local auto eleckys, could be the bushs are worn in the starter and need replacing.

if starter ok then look at ignition relay ht leads and coil pack.
