Hi, when i go through neutral to change gear my rev counter and engine speed up. When i stop, my engine and rev counter will increase to about 2000/2500 for a sec or 2 and then return to idling speed which is a bit higher than normal usually 750 now 1100. When i am going along all seems ok. Is the car ok to drive until i can get it fixed. Can anyone please help.

hi..
We have this problem on my friends mk1 focus 2,0 Zetec E/manual.
When the car was running on road if you change gear to netural or press the clutch pedal, engine revs up to 2500-3500rpm itself. we have checked everything(cables, connectors. etc) but VSS sensor. we are gonna check it tomorrow

i have a mk4 fiesta 1,25 Zetec SE/manual fiesta, and i had this problem on my car too, but it caused by PSP(power stering pressure) sensor's connector. if ecu cannot receive signal from ground trough this sensor, send signal to IAC (idle air control) valve to rev up the engine 'so it is not caused by IAC valve or vacuum leak'

make sure all the sensor's connecton right and good luck..
