Question about the light on the central information panel/cluster

After double locking the car - the panel stays illuminated for 10.5 minutes (yeah - I stuck around to time it, I looked like a bloody car thief).

I called my dealership, and they said it was normal for it stay illuminated for 15 minutes!

My question is - what the bejesus for? In my opinion (particularly if parking on a street) it just draws undew attention to the car. Low lifes my even {Bad Word: Moderated}ume a door is open or the key is in the ignition. There must be a reason....is there?

Can I change this setting?
