 Post subject: ipod connection/control

please can anyone assist, just purchased new shape 58 plate fiesta with aux port for ipod/usb. Have purchased Ford 'Y' Cable to connect ipod/usb but when using ipod connection i am unable to use remote (steering wheel) controls for track changing. Should i use the usb port to connect the ipod?
