I have a 2004 TDI fiesta which has suddeny started making a whining noise which appears to be very close to the cockpit. Any ideas what this could be?

may well be the alternator bearings i have the same thing with the wifes fiesta try a drop of light oil (3in1) into the bearing and see if it goes away (if of course it's the same whine) but try this anyway no harm done if not
the wifes one has been like this for a few years just left it not do any harm unless it starts to grind then you have to change alt
sometimes the belt is tightened up a bit to much and this is what happens
